The black tortoise is known as the guardian of the North constellations in Chinese mythology. This abstract depiction has the turtle reseeding into his shell. I utilized a monochromatic color scheme by using various shades of green.

Guarding the west constellations is the White Tiger. Tigers are seen as strong, so I depicted him with his teeth on display to any enemies. I utilized a complementary color scheme of purple and yellow.

The south constellations are guarded by the Vermillion Bird. No matter if you are looking at this piece as is, with the bird soaring down on its pray or if you turn it upside down you can see it screeching. Since the Vermillion Bird is also associated with the phoenix, I incorporated an analogous color scheme of red, red-orange and orange.

The Azure Dragon guards the East constellations. Dragons, especially Chinese dragons, have long snaking bodies, so I have the dragon coil inside of the frame to represent this. I also incorporated depth with the parts of the body closest to the frame be lighter than the inside. While it may appear that this a complementary color scheme, it is actually a split complementary scheme of blue, yellow-orange and red-orange.

DERRICK DANGER in: Battle with Bogdor the Landlord

Medium: pop-Art

Size: 8” x 10”

Derrick Danger is a fictional character that I created to parody the incredible adventures of old comic books. However, I put him situations that are mundane but are overdramatized when reading the context. This adventure, I have Derrick standing off a dispute with his landlord, Bogdor. I used acrylic paint to get the general shape of the figures and paint pens that create the thick black outlines.

DERRICK DANGER in: Retrieval of the Wallet from the Fumigated Home of Doom

Size: 8” x 10”

This is the second adventure that Derrick must endure. Do to the negligence of leaving his wallet, he must venture back to his space home to fight off the gas of the fumigators and the rampant infestation of the Terra-Siphonaptera. Will he be able to get his Wallet in time or will he perish in his now-dangerous home?

Jar in Colorful Space

This was a still life of a white vase. In our class, we did one in a gray background, however we were now able to work in color. I was really proud to capture the lights and shadows so effectively on the jar.

Uakari Holding Mango

Medium: impressionism

Size: 9” x 12”

Uakaris are monkeys that hail from South America and have a diet that consist of fruit, leaves and insects. Monkeys are incredibly fascinating creatures with there human-like qualities and entertaining habits. The style of Impressionism is spectacle in its color choice and I would want to choose a primate that had such a vibrant face.

Arrival of the Horsemen

It is always enjoyable to create a twist on a classic and The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is no exception. Each of the horsemen have there own color scheme with a weapon that corresponds to a different Horsemen and even have different animals that they ride upon.
